What is a mow strip?
A mow strip (also called an under-fence weed barrier) is a physical barrier installed at ground level along a fence line to stop grass and weeds from growing where mowers and trimmers can't reach. UnderFence is a mow strip made from recycled HDPE that installs under your existing fence.
What do you put under a fence to prevent weeds?
Most people use gravel, landscape fabric, or concrete. But each comes with trade-offs: fabric degrades, gravel shifts, and concrete is expensive and permanent. UnderFence installs directly beneath your existing fence in minutes and blocks weed growth without digging or pouring.
Can I stop weeds under my fence without a weed eater?
Yes. UnderFence eliminates the need to trim under the fence at all—once it's installed, there's no vegetation gap left for weeds to grow through, so there's nothing left to trim.
Will UnderFence work with the fence I already have?

In most cases, yes. About 80% of UnderFence installs are retrofits onto existing fences.

The one requirement is at least a quarter-inch to a half-inch of clearance between the bottom of the fence and the ground.

Does UnderFence keep pets or small animals out, too?
It creates a solid barrier right at ground level, so it also helps prevent dogs from digging out and can deter small animals like rabbits from getting under the fence—though its primary purpose is blocking weed growth, not animal containment.
