About UnderFence
A family business built on a product grounds crews have trusted since 2008.
UnderFence started as a simple idea: Give fence lines a permanent, maintenance-free edge. Nearly two decades and thousands of installations later, that is still what drives the business—led by a husband-and-wife team based in Annandale, Minnesota.
How Underfence Started
The job Underfence was built to end.
Weeds and grass always find the one strip mowers and trimmers can't reach.
Along the fence line.
Since 2008, UnderFence has offered a permanent fix: a barrier that installs under nearly any existing fence and ends the weekly cycle of trimming, spraying harmful chemicals, or paying for concrete.
What started with commercial and municipal properties—schools, athletic fields, parks—has grown into a product homeowners now rely on, too.
Meet the Owners
Two people who'd rather be outside than behind a desk.
When Luke and Laura MacLean aren't running UnderFence, there's a decent chance they're coaching their kids' sports teams—driven by an instinct for showing up, paying attention, and listening to what others need to succeed.
Laura's the one most likely to spot an opportunity nobody else saw coming (like the dog-loving social media following that's become one of UnderFence's most unexpected marketing channels); and Luke's often the one making sure every order ships on time.
What Goes Into UnderFence
Made in the USA from recycled HDPE. With no shortcuts.
UnderFence is manufactured domestically from recycled HDPE, the same material used in playground equipment, decking, and outdoor furniture.
It's UV-stabilized and resistant to weather, insects, and mold, with no BPA, heavy metals, or allergens. Installations dating back to 2008 have reported no cracking or breaking.
That’s still the standard the product is held to today.

FAQs
How can I get in touch with UnderFence directly?
Does UnderFence sell directly, or through resellers?
Both.
UnderFence sells directly, and also works through an authorized commercial distributor, Pioneer Athletics, for schools, Parks & Rec, and colleges/universities.
There's no broader reseller network in between, so pricing and product knowledge stay consistent either way.
What's the difference between UnderFence's residential and commercial products?
The core product is the same recycled HDPE barrier.
Commercial orders offer a wider range of widths (up to 32") and are priced by quantity tier for larger-scale projects, while residential orders are sized and priced for individual homeowners.
Why did UnderFence expand from commercial into residential fencing?
UnderFence's earliest installations, dating back to 2008, were mostly commercial—schools, athletic fields, and municipal properties.
Residential became available more recently, as homeowners began asking for the same fix already trusted by grounds professionals.
